The 60-Year-Old Mystery of Reed Jeppson

On October 11, 1964, 15-year-old Reed Jeppson vanished without a trace in what has become one of Utah’s most enduring mysteries. That Sunday, Reed told his sister he was heading out to feed the family’s dogs and would be back in about thirty minutes. But Reed never returned, and he hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Reed, a popular high school student from Salt Lake City, was described as responsible and well-liked by his friends and family. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a white shirt, jeans, and loafers. After he left to take care of the dogs, time passed, and no one realized anything was wrong until hours later when he still hadn’t returned home. Concerned family members began searching for Reed, but their efforts turned up no clues.

Authorities were contacted, and a large-scale search began. Volunteers combed the area, and police questioned neighbors, friends, and anyone who might have had contact with Reed that day. However, no solid leads emerged. Reed’s disappearance has remained unsolved, with no evidence to indicate what might have happened to him.

Over the years, there have been many theories, from foul play to the possibility of Reed running away. But none of these have been confirmed. The case has remained open for nearly 60 years, with law enforcement occasionally revisiting old leads, but the truth behind Reed’s disappearance continues to elude investigators.

To this day, Reed Jeppson’s family continues to seek answers, holding on to the hope that one day they might learn what happened to him on that quiet October afternoon. His case stands as a haunting reminder of the many missing person cases that go unresolved.
